The BTEC in Driving Science is the world’s first educational driving qualification. Awarded by Edexcel, it is the equivalent to a GCSE Level and can be tracked from the first lesson on the online management system. It is internally verified by a²om and externally verified by Edexcel.

As poor attitude and behaviour are contributory factors in 95% of all crashes, the BTEC has been designed around the European Goals for Driver Education, whose four levels not only address the practical skills needed for driving, but also address the attitude, beliefs and behaviour of the novice driver from the beginning of the learning to drive process.

The a²om BTEC in Driving Science is taught during normal driving lessons. Your pupil will be taught by an a²om affiliate ADI, who will follow the most comprehensive driver programme in the UK. On completion of the BTEC, the pupil will have gained a full UK driving licence and will have reached an advanced standard of driving, inclusive of motorway and night driving.

‘I am delighted to see a²om’s national BTEC scheme bringing to the UK some of the most advanced learning from around the world. a²om is to be commended for its initiative to counter some of the significant problems affecting young drivers and their passengers, as well as delivering an academic and vocational qualification for the young driver that may also broaden the base of employment opportunity for those opting for the a²om course over a simple driving test’.

HRH Prince Michael of Kent, GCVO, Patron of the Global Road Safety Commission

‘Being able to drive is an important route to employment, and should be embedded in our education system; driving well provides a route to continued employment - this breakthrough will give young people a chance in life which was just not there before’.

Adrian Walsh, director of RoadSafe
